Girl, 10, dies after being ejected from car in crash on La. Highway 1054 in Tangipahoa Parish

INDEPENDENCE, Louisiana — State police say a 10-year-old girl died after she was ejected from a car in a crash on La. Highway 1054 northeast of Independence in Tangipahoa Parish.

Trooper Nick Manale says an unlicensed 15-year-old girl was driving north on La. 1054 with three juveniles when her car drifted off the road and crashed into a ditch.

Manale says the vehicle then overturned, ejecting two unrestrained passengers — the 10-year-old girl and a 12-year-old boy — before coming to rest on its left side.

He says the 10-year-old girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Manale says the driver and two surviving passengers — the 12-year-old boy and 9-year-old boy — were transported to a hospital with minor to moderate injuries.

None of the children's names were released.
