BUFFALO, New York — A Buffalo teenager has been given the maximum 25-year prison sentence for his role in the death of a 16-year-old who was set on fire after being stabbed more than 50 times.
In court Wednesday, 17-year-old Ezeiekile Nafi said he knows what he did was wrong and apologized.
He was convicted of first-degree manslaughter in March.
Prosecutors have said they believe 16-year-old Darren Brown was the victim of a gang-motivated attack last July.
Nafi's attorney told the judge Nafi stabbed Brown five times but that other attackers had set Brown's body on fire.
A second teen, Demetrius Huff, pleaded guilty earlier to manslaughter but then refused to cooperate against Nafi. The Buffalo News reports (http://bit.ly/11z7q04) a judge has thrown out that plea and scheduled trial for September.
