Storm brings heavy snow to parts of Va, more than a foot reported in Rockingham County

RICHMOND, Virginia — A late-season winter storm is bringing heavy snow to parts of Virginia.

The National Weather Service says a trained spotter reported more than a foot of snow in the Singers Glen area in Rockingham County early Monday morning.

Other reported snowfall amounts range from 2 inches in Nelson County to 9 inches in Shenandoah County.

Winter storm warnings are in effect for about 20 counties through Monday afternoon. Other areas are under storm advisories.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is reporting minor to moderate conditions on primary roads across the state.

Temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-50s and low 60s by Thursday, when spring begins.
