Duson man sentenced to 20 years for killing 3 people in Dec. 2013 traffic accident


LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — A 59-year-old Duson man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing three people in December 2013 while driving drunk.

The Advertiser reports ( ) Charles Moter pleaded guilty in November to three counts of vehicular homicide and two counts of vehicular negligent injury.

Moter was sentenced Thursday by state District Judge Glennon Everett to 20 years for each count of vehicular homicide. Everett ordered the sentences to run concurrently and Moter will be eligible for parole after five years.

Moter also was sentenced to 5 years for two counts of vehicular negligent injury, to run concurrently with the 20-year sentence.

State police say Moter was driving north on Louisiana Highway 343 when his pickup struck a car. Three passengers in the car died.
