OBERLIN, Louisiana — Allen Parish officials will need to cut costs or come up with more funding options to build a new parish jail after bids for the project came in over the $8.5 million project budget.
Sheriff Doug Hebert III tells the American Press (http://bit.ly/cseYHv ) four bids, ranging from $10 million to $11 million, were opened Tuesday and taken under advisement.
Hebert says officials will review the bids and hope to make a decision Friday.
The sheriff had hoped to see construction of the 180-bed parish jail underway on a 40-acre site on La. 26, just west of Oberlin, by the end of the year after plans were approved by the state earlier this year.
