DEL MAR, California — Kaigun rallied to win the $250,000 Seabiscuit Handicap by three-quarters of a length Friday at Del Mar.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Kaigun ran 1 1/16 miles on the turf in 1:41.38 and paid $9, $4.80 and $3 to show.

Za Approval returned $6.80 and $3.60, while Tom's Tribute was another half-length back in third and paid $2.20 to show as the 3-2 favorite.

Kaigun was last with just over a quarter-mile to go when Nakatani took him to the far outside entering the stretch and Kaigun responded to take the lead inside the final sixteenth of a mile.

The victory, worth $150,000, increased Kaigun's career earnings to $960,220, with five wins in 18 starts. The 4-year-old gelding was coming off a 10th-place finish in the Breeders' Cup Mile on Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.
