Police ID man with walker who was fatally struck by SUV while trying to cross a Phoenix street

PHOENIX — Authorities have released the name of a man using a walker who was fatally struck by an SUV as he was trying to cross a Phoenix street.

Phoenix police say 58-year-old Gregory Regan was pronounced dead at a hospital shortly after Wednesday afternoon accident near 19th and Turney avenues.

Witnesses say Regan was hit after stopping in the crosswalk.

He reportedly turned back in the middle of the crosswalk after dropping something.

Police say a woman driving an SUV failed to notice him or change direction.

They say the woman remained at the scene, where she was evaluated by detectives who determined she wasn't impaired.

Police say there's no indication of speed being a factor in the incident, but the investigation is still ongoing.

The woman's name hasn't been released.
