Residents start returning home after gas leak in Hollywood prompted evacuations

LOS ANGELES — More than 100 people evacuated after a natural gas leak in Hollywood have begun returning to their homes.

City News Service reports the residents were allowed to start returning home shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday once crews had been able to shut off the gas.

Fire officials say a gas line was damaged Saturday morning during work by the Department of Water and Power, prompting the evacuation of four large apartment buildings.

An evacuation center was opened to house the residents overnight.

No injuries were reported.
