DENVER — Authorities say a 21-year-old Denver woman has been arrested on suspicion of beating her 2-month-old daughter to death.

The Denver Post reports (http://dpo.st/1m3EzGV ) Kelsy Newell-Skinner was arrested Monday and remains in custody for allegedly beating her daughter over the weekend. The infant, who died at a hospital Thursday, was brain dead and had multiple injuries, including severe bruising on her head, a swollen left eye, fractured ribs and what are thought to be bite marks on her left thigh.

An arrest affidavit says Newell-Skinner texted her ex-boyfriend Sunday saying "she must have been very drunk last night because she just woke up and the baby had been beaten."

Newell-Skinner's mother found the injured baby and took her to the hospital.

Newell-Skinner has four other children under 5 years old.
