CHICAGO — Chicago fire officials say a 72-year-old woman has died in a building fire on the city's northwest side.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports Chicago Fire Department and Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Shirley Ryan was found dead on the first floor of the two-story home Tuesday. They say she lived on the same block in the city's Portage Park neighborhood. An autopsy is scheduled.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and no other injuries were reported.

A fire department spokesman says firefighters didn't hear any working smoke detectors when they arrived at the scene.
