Woman crossing street in Phoenix dies after being hit by car

PHOENIX — Phoenix police say a woman was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing the street using a walker.

Police spokesman Steve Martos says the incident occurred around 8 p.m. Friday.

Martos says 59-year-old Dawn Cherrone was trying to cross Indian School Road with a wheeled assistance walker and was hit by a GMC Yukon going eastbound.

Cherrone was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained at the scene and police determined impairment was not a factor.
