Man gets 12 years in prison for hit-and-run crash that killed 23-year-old Buckley airman

DENVER — A man who acknowledged leaving the scene of an accident that killed a 23-year-old Buckley Air Force Base airman has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The Denver District Attorney's Office says 33-year-old William Pettapiece was sentenced Friday for the April crash that killed Michael Snyder, whose motorcycle was hit near the intersection of East Alameda Avenue and Monaco Parkway. Pettapiece, who apologized during the hearing, previously pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Snyder was a member of the 460th Space Communications Squadron.
