Police: Suspect arrested in fatal hit-and-run in South Tucson last weekend; Victim identified

SOUTH TUCSON, Arizona — Authorities say a suspect has been arrested in a fatal hit-and-run in South Tucson last weekend.

South Tucson police say 44-year-old Alkila Bonds was taken into custody Tuesday after officers executed a search warrant on a residence.

Police say the victim has been identified as 40-year-old Jerod Anthony Chaney.

They say a confidential source gave information about the suspect and the vehicle to Tucson police, which gave the information to South Tucson police.

Detectives found Bonds' vehicle at the residence and say it appeared someone tried to make crude repairs to the damaged areas.

Bonds was booked into Pima County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and weapons misconduct.

Chaney was found lying in an alley after getting struck by a vehicle Saturday morning and pronounced dead at a hospital.
