Energy Department wants more time for review of latest proposed route for Northern Pass

CONCORD, New Hampshire — The U.S. Department of Energy says it wants to conduct a more thorough review of the latest proposed route for the Northern Pass.

The department plans to supplement its draft Environmental Impact Statement, extend the public comment period to Dec. 31 and postpone hearings that were scheduled for October to allow more time for the public to review it.

The decision was in response to a request from members of New Hampshire's congressional delegation, as well as several environmental organizations, who said the revised proposal, including the placement of an additional 52 miles of the project underground, warrant additional time to consider.

Northern Pass said it doesn't anticipate a change in the project's overall schedule. It plans to file an application next month with the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee as part of the permitting process.
