Former Orleans Parish deputy sheriff accused of smuggling contraband into parish prison


NEW ORLEANS — A former deputy sheriff accused of smuggling contraband into Orleans Parish Prison has been arrested.

Sheriff Marlin Gusman says former deputy Evelyn Tureaud, who resigned Oct. 1 amid an internal investigation, was arrested Saturday and booked with introducing contraband into a prison.

The New Orleans Advocate reports ( ) Tureaud was arrested in Jefferson Parish on a warrant obtained by the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office.

She was booked on 14 counts of introducing contraband into a penal institution and malfeasance.

It was unclear whether Tureaud has an attorney.
