Western New York woman killed after car hits horse and rolls over several times

LEON, New York — Authorities in western New York say a 43-year-old woman has been killed after her car hit a horse.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened Tuesday night in the Town of Leon.

Deputies say Lerlene Rumsey of Cassadaga hit the animal as it was being walked across a two-lane road around 9 p.m. and was thrown from her car as it caromed into a ditch and rolled over several times.

Rumsey was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is still under investigation.

Leon is about 45 miles south of Buffalo.
