CSKA Moscow beats Rostov 3-1 to keep Russian Super Cup

Share/Save/Bookmark

MOSCOW — Russian champion CSKA Moscow started the new season by retaining the Russian Super Cup with a 3-1 win over nine-man FC Rostov on Saturday.

CSKA was lackluster in the first half and went into the break 1-0 down after Hrvoje Milic scored for Rostov, last season's Russian Cup winner.

Midfielder Pontus Wernbloom brought CSKA level after 56 minutes, before two red cards in quick succession changed the game.

First, Rostov midfielder Alexandru Gatcan earned his second booking for a foul on Georgy Milanov; his teammate Guelor Kaku Kanga disputed the decision and was sent off after picking up a second yellow card for dissent.

Zoran Tosic put CSKA ahead, and Seydou Doumbia added gloss to the scoreline.

The Russian Premier League begins on Friday.
