Olympiakos beats Xanthi 1-0 to maintain its big lead in Greek league

ATHENS, Greece — Olympiakos beat Xanthi 1-0 Saturday to maintain its big lead in the Greek league.

Alan Pulido scored the only goal in the 74th minute with a shot into an empty net from an assist by Costas Fortounis.

Five days after its league-record, 17-win streak ended with a 1-1 draw at Platanias, Olympiakos had some difficulty in putting Xanthi away. The visitors created several chances, with the best coming through Karim Soltani's close-range shot in the 66th, which hit the post.

The defending champion has a 19-point lead over second-place AEK Athens, which hosts third-place PAOK on Sunday. Xanthi is 12th.

Also, Kalloni beat Panthrakikos 2-0 and Panionios vs. Asteras ended in a scoreless draw.
