PHILADELPHIA — Authorities say violence overnight in north Philadelphia claimed the lives of two men and left another in critical condition.

Police said a 53-year-old man was beaten to death outside his home late Thursday night in the Fairhill section of the city. Chief Inspector Scott Small said a man was seen running from the scene, possibly with a metal object in his hand.

Shortly after that, two men were gunned down along a west Kensington street. Police said a 21-year-old man and a 37-year-old man were standing on the sidewalk when they were hit by bullets.

They were rushed to Temple University Hospital, where the 37-year-old victim died and the other man was in critical condition.
