Fish and Wildlife Commission considers new hunting rules for Puget Sound octopus

OLYMPIA, Washington — At its meeting Friday and Saturday in Olympia, the state Fish and Wildlife Commission is considering new rules for hunting giant Pacific octopuses in Puget Sound.

Commissioners are considering proposals to ban octopus hunting or to create marine preserves where they will be safe.

The action was prompted by petitions the commission received from scuba divers and others after one diver killed an octopus in November at a popular diving area off Alki Point in Seattle.
