Coroner says deaths of elderly couple in Beaufort County appear to be murder-suicide

SHELDON, South Carolina — The Beaufort County coroner says the deaths of two elderly people in the Sheldon area of the county appear to have been a murder-suicide.

Authorities say 80-year-old Jeanette Chinn and her 81-year-old husband, Brian, each were found dead Thursday evening of a single gunshot wound, along with the couple's dog.

Deputies say the couple's son called neighbors after not hearing from them for a few days and the neighbors called police.

Coroner Ed Allen says investigators are still trying to determine who fired the shots. Authorities say the house was locked.

The couple had lived in their home for about a decade. Authorities are investigating when they last had contact with other people.
