SITKA, Alaska — Three years after her disappearance, Lael Grant's family is asking for her death certificate.

KCAW-FM reports (http://bit.ly/1zSYlS0) Grant was last seen two days after her father's funeral on October 13, 2012. Her car was found parked 8 miles outside of Sitka, and the search hasn't turned up any other sign of the mother of two boys, now 14 and 12 years old.

Grant's sister Erika Burkhouse says she filed the presumptive death petition on April 20 to help Bonnie Grant, her mom, and the two boys find closure.

A Sitka jury is expected to hear from witnesses on June 25 to decide whether to grant the petition.
