Colorado man pleads guilty to first-degree manslaughter in death of 2-year-old girl

RAPID CITY, South Dakota — A Colorado man has pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for the death of a 2-year-old girl.

The Rapid City Journal reports (http://bit.ly/ZErPeS) that 23-year-old Edward R. Berges pleaded guilty to the charge Tuesday morning.

The girl was found on Aug. 15. She was taken to a Rapid City hospital, and then flown to Sanford Children's Hospital in Sioux Falls, where she died.

Authorities have said Berges was the boyfriend of the girl's mother.

Sentencing is set for July 3. Prosecutors are asking for a maximum of 37 years.
