WEST PALM BEACH, Florida — A South Florida man faces a possible death sentence after being convicted of killing his estranged wife and her two friends.
A Palm Beach County jury found Bruce Strachan guilty Thursday of first-degree murder. The Palm Beach Post (http://goo.gl/fQchJD ) reports that the same panel will reconvene in the coming weeks to recommend life in prison or death.
Authorities say Strachan had been hiding in the bushes in August 2009 before he gunned down 29-year-old Yamika Murphy and her friends, Ronald Anthony Wright and Debbie Sears, both 24, with an AK-47. Prosecutors say Strachan had threatened Murphy and two friends at gunpoint a month earlier, proving that the killing was premeditated.
Defense attorneys argued that Strachan and Wright actually traded fire, and that Murphy was responsible for escalating the violence that night.
