ABERDEEN, Miss. — A federal judge has dismissed imprisoned attorney Richard "Dickie" Scruggs' push to vacate his 2009 conviction in a judicial bribery case
The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/LFHqss ) Senior U.S. District Judge Glen H. Davidson on Wednesday dismissed Scruggs' motion. If he decides to appeal, the matter would move to the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Scruggs pleaded guilty to seeking to improperly influence then-Circuit Judge Bobby DeLaughter of Hinds County, who presided over a legal fees lawsuit against Scruggs and others. He received more prison time on top of a five-year sentence for his guilty plea to a conspiracy to bribe Circuit Judge Henry Lackey, who presided over another legal fees lawsuit against Scruggs.
