WEST MONROE, Louisiana — Two children were taken into custody of Child Protective Services after police found them playing naked and nasty in the backyard of a West Monroe home.

Police say officers responded to a report Wednesday of two children playing naked in the street.

Inside the home, officers tell The News-Star (http://tnsne.ws/1pksNIU ) they smelled feces, urine and rotten food, and they saw dirty diapers and feces in almost every room.

Police say both Samantha Lynn Clark, the mother of the children, and Jacob Sikes, said they were asleep and didn't know the children were outside.

Clark and Sikes were arrested and booked with child desertion.

It was unclear whether they have attorneys.
