Weight Watchers tops 3Q earnings and revenue expectations


NEW YORK — Weight Watchers International Inc. (WTW) on Wednesday reported third-quarter profit of $37.9 million.

On a per-share basis, the New York-based company said it had profit of 67 cents. Earnings, adjusted for restructuring costs, were 68 cents per share.

The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 49 cents per share.

The weight-loss program operator posted revenue of $345.2 million in the period, which also beat Street forecasts. Analysts expected $336.2 million, according to Zacks.

Weight Watchers expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.95 to $2.05 per share.

Weight Watchers shares have decreased 11 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $29.42, a decrease of 26 percent in the last 12 months.
