Firefighters making progress against 1,850-acre San Diego County wildfire

JULIAN, California — Firefighters are making progress against a wildfire burning in a remote area of eastern San Diego County.

Authorities say the blaze east of the mountain town of Julian grew to 1,850 acres and is 70 percent contained Friday.

No homes are threatened.

More than 600 firefighters, aided by air tankers, helicopters, dozens of engines and water tenders are battling the blaze. Three firefighters suffered minor injuries.

The fire began Thursday afternoon. The cause remains under investigation.
