DEL RIO, Texas — A former first-grade teacher in South Texas caught with more than 1,100 sexually explicit images of children has been sentenced to 25 years in federal prison.

Ruben A. Vazquez was sentenced Tuesday in Del Rio.

The 40-year-old Vasquez last summer was convicted of receipt of child pornography, distribution of child pornography and access with intent to view child pornography.

Vazquez taught at Calderon Elementary in the San Felipe Independent School District before a June 2012 raid on his home. Officers seized computer equipment that yielded more than 1,000 images and about 100 videos of sexually explicit conduct by minors.

Vazquez was placed on leave by the school district and later fired.
