Minden man faces 30 years in prison after entering guilty plea in beating death last summer


MINDEN, Louisiana — A Minden man faces 30 years in prison after pleading guilty to beating a man to death last summer.

The Minden Press-Herald reports ( ) Luke Ferguson pleaded guilty to manslaughter in district court Monday.

Webster Assistant District Attorney Sherb Sentell says the maximum penalty for manslaughter is 40 years, however, the plea agreement stipulated a 30-year cap.

Ferguson's accomplice, Drew Kilgore, pleaded guilty to negligent homicide Monday. He is facing up to five years in prison.

Sentell says the victim, 32-year-old William Sheppard died July 10, 2013, after Kilgore lured him onto the porch of his Doyline residence and Ferguson then hit him three times in the back of the head with a wooden table leg.

Kilgore and Ferguson are set to be sentenced June 13.
