Providence man gets 2 life sentences for fatal shooting at ex-girlfriend's home

WARWICK, Rhode Island — A Providence man who police say went to his ex-girlfriend's home to confront her new boyfriend has been sentenced to two consecutive life sentences for fatally shooting another man who was there.

Twenty-five-year-old Tony Gonzalez of Providence was sentenced Tuesday. Authorities say Gonzalez went to his former girlfriend's home in Warwick in 2012 and began fighting with 23-year-old Carl Cunningham. Cunningham, who was not dating the woman, was shot several times and died at the hospital.

Gonzalez was found guilty in February.

He also received 15 years in prison for firing at his ex-girlfriend's boyfriend.
