State accepting unwanted computers, monitors, fax machines at Payson recycling event

PAYSON, Arizona — Payson residents will have a place to drop off their unwanted electronic items this weekend.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality is hosting an electronics recycling event Saturday off Beeline Highway in Payson.

Organizers anticipate receiving televisions, computer equipment, monitors, printers, batteries, fax machines, cameras and other items. However, there's a limit of two televisions or monitors per vehicle.

Department director Henry Darwin says recycling the potentially toxic items will save valuable space at the landfill.

He says the Payson event has grown in popularity, with nearly three times more electronics waste collected last year than in 2010.

The town's water superintendent, Buzz Walker, says it's one of the most attended events in Payson.
