COLUMBUS, Ohio — Gov. John Kasich (KAY'-sik) seems dismissive of a proposed constitutional amendment that would keep Ohio workers covered by labor contracts from having to join a union or pay union dues.
He told reporters at an Associated Press forum that he doesn't think the public is prepared for that or has an understanding of the issue.
Kasich was asked Thursday about Indiana Republicans who have cleared the way for their state to become the first right-to-work state in more than a decade. He told reporters at an Associated Press forum that he doesn't think the public is prepared for that or has an understanding of the issue.
Kasich says supporters who feel strongly about it should be prepared to tell people why it's important. Though, he says the labor situation here is "pretty darn good."
The right-to-work amendment effort in Ohio emerged this fall, days after voters overwhelmingly rejected restrictions on public employee unions that Kasich supported.
