1 dead, 3 hurt in 2-car crash on rural western New York road; collision in Livingston County


SPARTA, New York — Police say one person is dead and three others are hospitalized with serious injuries after a two-car collision on a rural road in western New York.

The Livingston County Sheriff's Office tells WHAM-TV ( ) that the vehicles collided Thursday morning near an intersection in the town of Sparta, 40 miles south of Rochester.

Deputies say at least four people were trapped in the two vehicles. One died at the scene and the other three were transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Traffic has been shut down in the area around the crash scene. No other details have been released.
