Production at Newcastle refinery on hold after power outage causes small fire at facility

Share/Save/Bookmark

CASPER, Wyoming — Production at a Newcastle refinery is on hold after a power outage caused a small fire at the facility.

James Runyan, president of the Wyoming Refining Co., tells The Casper Star-Tribune (http://bit.ly/WHq1ar ) no one was injured in Friday morning's fire, and production is expected to resume within 48 hours.

He says a transformer in the area went out, cutting electricity to Upton, Osage and Newcastle and prompting the refinery to enter an emergency shutdown. A tube inside a heating unit ruptured during the shutdown, causing the fire.

The blaze was extinguished within 20 minutes.
