Storms dump heavy rains in SW Alabama, more in forecast

MOBILE, Alabama — More rain is on the way for southwest Alabama, where storms already are causing flooding concerns.

The National Weather Service in Mobile says an off-duty employee received more than a foot of rain at home on Wednesday, and Brookley Field received almost 5 inches of rain.

A low pressure system near New Orleans is causing storms along the Gulf Coast, and some coastal areas could receive as much as 2 inches of rain an hour.

Forecasters say flooding is likely in parts of Mobile and Baldwin counties.

Rain is also in the forecast for central and north Alabama, although showers shouldn't be as heavy as in southern counties.
