6 inches of rain triggers flooding in Stewart County, schools closed in Stewart, Houston

DOVER, Tennessee — Heavy rain and localized flooding has caused problems in northwestern Middle Tennessee.

The National Weather Service said up to 6 inches of rain fell in Stewart County, on the Tennessee River.

WTFV-TV in Nashville reported the county school systems in Stewart and neighboring Houston counties called off classes Monday because of flood damage. The area is about 80 miles northwest of Nashville.

Clint Mathis, director of Stewart County's Office of Emergency Management, told The Tennessean the flash flood damage from the weekend is worse than the county had in the 2010 floods and will be more costly.

No injuries were reported. Shelters were opened for a time and served about 50 people, but were note needed by later on Sunday.
