Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who failed to register a win on four visits to the Stadium of Light with former club Southampton, had looked set to leave with three points this time.

Although Nacer Chadli put Tottenham in front inside two minutes and Adam Johnson almost immediately responded with an equalizer, Christian Eriksen fired the London club in front three minutes into the second half.

But Sunderland leveled for a second time when Jordi Gomez's free-kick hit fellow Kane at the far post and the ball looped into the net in the 82nd minute.
