Biloxi needs $1 million to get MGM Stadium open for Shuckers to play their first game April 21

BILOXI, Mississippi — The city of Biloxi will either have to pay a $10,000 fine for every home game that can't be played in the new Shuckers' stadium, or chip in $1 million to get it ready for opening day on April 21.

City attorney Gina Tompkins said Tuesday the city doesn't have a $1 million.

The Sun Herald reports ( Tompkins told the city council said she met Monday with officials from Yates Construction, which is building the stadium on U.S. 90. Even if the city manages to come up with the money, she said the stadium still won't be completely done in time.

City officials say they need to have an answer next week about the extra money to give the Shuckers and the Southern League time to finalize their schedules.
