Residents escape uninjured before early-morning fire destroys southwest Iowa home


OAKLAND, Iowa — A home outside of Oakland in southwest Iowa has been destroyed in an early-morning fire.

The Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil reports ( ) that firefighters were called to the home around 4 a.m. Friday.

Firefighters arrived to see smoke rising from the home's basement.

Pottawattamie County Emergency Management Director Doug Reed says the home's residents woke up to smoke and were able to crawl out before the fire spread. No one was injured, but the home was a total loss.
