SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts — Neighbors of a Springfield parochial school severely damaged by a tornado more than two years ago are growing impatient about the future of the property.
Residents of East Forest Park met with officials from the Roman Catholic Springfield Diocese on Wednesday to get updates on the future of Cathedral High School.
Some residents say the school made unusable by the June 2011 tornados that ripped across the region has become a neighborhood eyesore rather than a point of pride.
The diocese got a nearly $50 million settlement from its insurer in September.
Diocese officials say they would like to rebuild on the same site, but are moving cautiously and are hoping for more funds from federal disaster officials.
Meanwhile, students are taking classes in rented space in Wilbraham.
