SYDNEY — Veteran midfielder Mark Bresciano has been added to Australia's squad for friendly internationals against Belgium and Saudi Arabia after injury ruled out Sydney FC midfielder Terry Antonis.

Football Federation Australia on Friday said Antonis strained his hamstring during Sydney's 4-2 preseason win over Newcastle on Wednesday.

Socceroos head coach Ange Postecoglou had initially planned to rest Bresciano, who has played 77 internationals, to give several fringe players an opportunity to perform ahead of next year's AFC Asian Cup in Australia.

Postecoglou says Bresciano "adds quality and experience for what will be two tough matches."

Australia plays Belgium at Liege on Sept. 4 and Saudi Arabia at Craven Cottage, London, on Sept. 8.
