TRENTON, New Jersey — A central New Jersey man who admitted possessing child pornography and distributing it online has been sentenced to five years in state prison.

Acting state Attorney General John Hoffman says 33-year-old Roberto Arreola-Ramirez of New Brunswick also must register as a sex offender under the sentence imposed Monday. He had pleaded guilty to the charges in October 2013.

Prosecutors say Arreola-Ramirez admitted that he knowingly used Internet file-sharing software to make child pornography files readily available for others to download from a designated "shared folder."

He was arrested in October 2012, and investigators said they found hundreds of child pornography images and videos on his computer.

Arreola-Ramirez also is the subject of a detainer filed by federal immigration authorities.
