Charlotte police say off-duty officer breaking up bar fight attacked by spectator, shoots him

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — A man is struggling for life after he fought with and was shot by an off-duty Charlotte police officer.

Multiple media reports say the shooting ended a fracas early Sunday at a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant near the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

Police say Officer Tyler Lee was off-duty and working at the restaurant when a fight erupted near the bar. Police say Lee tried to break it up and used a Taser on one of the apparent attackers.

Authorities say a different man then grabbed Lee from behind with a choke hold. Lee struggled to free himself and then shot the unnamed man. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition. Lee was checked and released.

Two men involved in the fight were taken into custody.
