Volunteers to assemble care packages for Rhode Island service members this holiday season

WARWICK, Rhode Island — State and local officials are working with dozens of volunteers to assemble care packages for Rhode Island troops this holiday season.

Lt. Gov. Daniel McKee, Rhode Island National Guard Brigadier Gen. Christopher Callahan, Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian and volunteers will gather at the armory on Airport Road in Warwick on Sunday morning.

Donations are being collected from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, also at the Warwick Armory.

McKee's office says Operation Holiday Cheer is a seasonal initiative to ship hundreds of care packages to servicemen and women who are away from home during the holidays.

This is the 13th year.

McKee's website has a "troops' wish list" with suggested donations and a link for monetary donations.
