HORNELL, New York — A 22-year-old upstate New York man is facing murder charges in connection with the death of a 17-month-old boy last Thanksgiving.
A four-count indictment issued Tuesday by a Steuben County grand jury against Dakota Miller of Hornell includes charges of aggravated murder, first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and first-degree manslaughter.
Steuben County Sheriff Brooks Baker says the allegation is that Miller engaged in the intentional murder of Ian Maniske-Huff and "relished" torturing the boy. The sheriff says the victim's entire body was injured.
Miller, originally charged with assault and manslaughter, was supposed to be taking care of the child when the attack occurred. The boy died three days later.
Public defender Tom Stahr is expected to enter a plea of innocent in court on Thursday.
