1 convicted, 1 acquitted in death of man left paralyzed in 2008 Pa. housing complex shooting

PITTSBURGH — One man has been convicted and another acquitted in the slaying of a man who died three years after he was gunned down at a western Pennsylvania housing complex.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/12eKI8C ) says Allegheny County jurors on Monday convicted 22-year-old John Coaston of second-degree murder and robbery but acquitted 20-year-old Malik Williams of all charges.

Authorities said Justine Fowler was left paralyzed after an October 2008 shooting in the Bedford Dwellings housing complex.

Homicide charges were filed after the 22-year-old's December 2011 death, which the medical examiner's office said stemmed from the shooting.

Coaston faces a mandatory life term without possibility of parole at his sentencing, which has not yet been scheduled.
