PHOENIX — Phoenix police says an officer has shot and killed a hatchet-wielding man at an apartment complex.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson says Isaac Lankisch was shot late Friday after he refused an officer's commands and threw a hatchet at an officer. Police had been called to the scene following a report that the 42-year-old Lankisch had swung his hatchet at another man.
Lankisch was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries. No officers were injured.
The name of the officer involved in the shooting was not released.
The shooting is being investigated by the Violent Crimes Bureau and the Professional Standards Bureau of the Phoenix Police Department.
