INDIANAPOLIS — Indiana State Police say the crash of a sheriff's department van that injured five prisoners was among more than 30 wrecks involving injuries as freezing rain and sleet slicked over highways across Indiana.

No life-threatening injuries were reported.

Troopers say an Allen County Sheriff's Department transport van crashed Tuesday morning on Interstate 69 in Delaware County. The five prisoners reported minor injuries including back pain.

The wintry weather led to more than 100 crashes across central Indiana and the closures of portions of Interstates 65, 70 and 465 in the Indianapolis area.

WTHI-TV reports a seven-mile stretch of I-70 in western Indiana was closed in both directions at one point. State police reported more than 20 slide-offs and crashes in that area.
