HONOLULU — Honolulu Police are trying to determine if a man killed by officers last month was the same person who drove a stolen car toward an officer in July.

James Pickard Jr. died Aug. 6 from gunshots fired by two officers in Pacific Palisades.

Police say the convicted car thief smashed a stolen car into a police car, reversed direction and drove toward two officers on foot.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (http://bit.ly/1w6hqtE) reports police say Pickard also was suspected of driving a stolen car at a police sergeant July 24 in the Red Hill area.

The officer had approached a man leaning on a car, and as he got close, the man jumped into the car and drove toward him.

The officer fired one shot at the car. The car was recovered.
